Case Study: Ironman 4x4 – Kilsyth Flagship Store
When Ironman 4x4 approached us to design their new flagship store in Kilsyth, Victoria, the brief was clear: create a retail environment that would launch the brand’s new concept, reflect its refreshed identity, and showcase products in a way that connects directly with customers’ sense of adventure.
From the outset, our challenge was to balance rugged durability with modern retail design. Ironman 4x4 is a brand built for the great outdoors, yet the new store needed to feel contemporary, immersive, and distinctly Australian.
The service counter, positioned centrally, became a key feature of the design. As the primary greeting point for customers, its location was an important consideration — anchoring the store layout, supporting staff visibility, and ensuring that customer service is front and centre from the moment visitors arrive.
A key feature in the design is the linear lighting, integrated into battens within the feature bulkhead, it creates a strong rhythm in the store. This not only brings structure to the interiors but also sets a dramatic tone to the service counter.
Equally important was the design thinking behind the display fixtures. These were developed to be modular, flexible, and engaging, with an interchangeable system of colours and materials. By basing the fixtures on standard module sizing for each wall bay, we enabled multiple configurations and layouts, making the design adaptable not only for Kilsyth but also for future rollouts across different store locations. This ensures consistency in branding while providing the flexibility to tailor each fitout to its site-specific needs.
Inside, the brand’s colours are utilised strategically — not just as accents, but as active tools to create contrast, heighten recognition, and hero individual products. Every fixture, backdrop, and display were carefully considered to highlight the strength and performance of the Ironman 4x4 range.
To reinforce the brand’s rugged DNA, we introduced a palette of industrial metal grids and mesh panels, evoking toughness and functionality. This is deliberately softened with warm timber tones, a natural counterbalance that grounds the interiors in the Australian outdoor lifestyle — a subtle reminder of the environments where Ironman 4x4 products are truly at home.
The result is more than a retail fit-out. It is a destination store that immerses customers in the Ironman 4x4 brand, inspires exploration, and reflects the company’s evolution through a bold new retail concept. The Kilsyth flagship is not only a place to shop — it’s a place where customers can connect with the spirit of adventure.
